Chalk FarmThe original Carville production facility was located at Chalk Farm in London. Carville relocated to our current manufacturing facility in 1966. The new facility is located in Dorking, Surrey.

History

Carville was established in 1928 as an engineering manufacturing services company.

In 1930, the Imperial Chemical Company (ICI) began to production of Poly Methyl Methacrylate (PMMA) in the United Kingdom. The PMMA material was produced under the brand name Perspex and today is also referred to as Plexiglas or Polycast.

Carville began to fabricate and machine acrylic parts and components in the early 1930’s for use in the emerging aerospace and automotive industries.

As design engineers became more innovative, and acrylic and other plastics were being adopted in engineering applications, Carville developed a series on innovation manufacturing techniques which required to machining, fabrication and bonding of acrylic and other plastics.

In 1960, to meet the requirements for weight reduction in the aerospace industry, Carville began to produce a new multilayer acrylic material known as CarvilleX. This new light weight material was an acrylic laminate which was created by Diffusion Bonding several layers of acrylic material to form a sandwich. The acrylic sandwich was engraved with characters and could be clearly read in normal day light and be backlight for use in night time flying. Carville also used this new material to produce MIMIC Panels for use in industry and maritime applications.

In 1980, Carville entered a development programme with Corning Medical. Corning Medical where producing machines for blood diagnostics and were experiencing problems related to equipment reliability. The conventional plastic tubing used by Corning would occasionally leak or kink during usage which would cause loss of flow or system failure. Corning required fixed fluid paths that would maintain their shape during operation, would be inert to medical samples and would improve system reliability. Carville worked with Corning Medical, and using our manufacturing processes, successfully produced the world’s first Diffusion Bonded manifold for use in a hematology application.

In 1990, The Parker Pen Company were looking to launch new versions of their heritage (1900’s) product lines using modern materials. The first challenge was to recreate the Duofold Pearl and Black using luxury acrylic resins. The project was successful, Carville produce a wide range of Duofold products and the Pearl and Black is still manufactured today.

In early 2000, the next manufacturing challenge came. Medical and pharmaceutical customers required smaller medical manifolds that could process samples and reagents at micro fluidic levels. Carville further developed our manufacturing methods and successfully produced bonded manifolds with internal tracks down to 150um.

Today, Carville is one of the world’s oldest and most experienced plastics machining companies. Carville is a business operating in the southern area of the UK. Our focus is towards developing new methods and manufacturing techniques that meet the manufacturing challenges presented to us by our customers.

Carville aim to produce precision machined plastic parts and plastic components that are correct to the customer’s specifications, are delivered on time and are competitively priced.
